I'm Sarah Schwarz, the author and curator of ABOUT SAAR. I live close to the ocean with my love and little ones where we celebrate all those little moments that make life so precious. Here is where I want to share them with you. So if you want to read about mommy things, travel fun, organic stuff and healthy living, let's be friends!
The name "Made in Tribe" somehow intrigued me when I first saw it on Instagram. It's original name was positively confirmed with the wide selection of precious products I found in this beautiful Spanish web store. With it's elaborate selection of natural cosmetics, linens, toys, baby products and home goods it is a jewel on the Spanish Internet. And now they are our first reseller in Spain!

Andrea and Iñigo, the couple behind this venture, were traveling on a bus from Panama to Costa Rica when they were struck by the natural paradise around them being destroyed. Working as an architect and engineer, they decided to turn their lives around and start a business of their own with an idea of change.
Andrea, Iñigo & baby Gabriela
When their baby daughter Gabriela was born the idea crystallized and "Made in Tribe" was born. They decided to collect only healthy, natural and beautiful products from all over the world, made with love. They are driven to contribute to environmental awareness and believe in working together to make things better.

I am so happy that our products are available in Spain through this wonderful store and in the company of so many other special brands. Thank you Andrea & Iñigo and check it out on: www.madeintribe.com
We met Letty when we were visiting Amsterdam and ran into this cute store called Anna & Nina, where they sold special items, jewelry, accessories, gifts etc. We like the organic approach and decided to ask the girl in the shop if they would be interested in selling our new product-line that we had just launched. Letty, friendly faced and very enthusiastic, made photo's of our samples and soon after our visit, Anna & Nina placed their first order. Letty had also told us about her plans to move to South Africa and open her own shop there.
Now, a few months later, she contacted us that her store was open! Take a look at her wonderful store : the blondechaos.com
She has a great sense of style and we love the way she presented our products. The selections she makes are original and daring and combine dutch design with a relaxed, easy Cape Town lifestyle.
For the first time in my life I set foot on the United States California in September 2015. Seeing San Francisco coming closer from the plane is such a delightful sight. Surrounded by sparkling water it just seems like straight from a storybook. After being separated for 6 weeks we were so happy! Everything I had heard and saw about California in the media still didn't prepare me for the astonishing beauty of this place. If you have been there, I'm sure you know what I mean. Who doesn't love the sunshine?! Here are some pics of our road trip from San Francisco to LA...and back. If you would like to see...
Strolling the streets of San Francisco I felt so thankful finally seeing this former hippie-city I had heard so much about. I thought it was so much more quaint then I had imagined, not at all the buzzing city life, but more spacious and relaxed. Didn't see to many hippies hanging around though, as the Bay Area is taken over by the revenge of the Nerds; technology! Still the city has a lot of charm with it's rolling hills, beautiful victorian houses and artistic feel. And hands down the best sandwiches in the world... at Lucca Deli on Chestnut Street.
It is so fun to finally see our products in this amazing shop in real life. The many wonderful items in this shop are all unique finds from the owner Judie, which makes her shop so special. If you want to find a true treasure for your home, garden or a special gift, this is the place! emilyjoubert.com
Temple to water, Woodside CA.
Now we're off to a town called Carmel by the Sea, where I am told Clint Eastwood used to be the Mayor in the eighties. He still lives around here so it seems. I am starting to feel like I am in the movies for real. Looking for specialty stores for Saar, we run into a linen shop called Jan de Luz (jandeluzlinens.com). This shop is owned by a French lady called Brigitte and has the most beautiful Linens with embroideries that can be made in the shop on the spot.
The dance of the pelicans around Carmel was breathtaking.....
Isn't this just the most romantic place in the world? Nature here is overwhelming. During a walk on the beach dolphins just decided to do a private show for us...
Always hard to say goodbye, but then came: Santa Barbara. I could not believe the beauty of this small city and it is easy to believe Hollywood actors love to live around here. They kept this city so well, it has a Spanish feel because of the pristine Spanish Colonial Architecture that is maintained throughout the city. Combined with the beach, the American sense of Hospitality and style, this city is in one word: Grandios!
It is delicious to sit outside at The Andersens restaurant & bakery on State Street in Santa Barbara. andersenssantabarbara.com
We feel like we just entered a house in Florence during the Renaissance at this beautiful B & B bungalow owned by Mike & Kelly. The bungalow has it's own hot water tub in a secret little garden in the back, with a little fireplace, perfect for a romantic hide away surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and hummingbirds. It is called My Santa Barbara BNB and you will find it on airbnb.com
Our trip got sadly interrupted by the news that Mauricio's mom was facing her final hours and we flew to Colombia unexpectedly to be by her side. Of all times we didn't bring all our papers on our road trip so we had to fly back to SF and then to Cali, Colombia. It was totally surreal and what was most touching were the sweetness and warmth of the people in Colombia. We would love to come back here under different circumstances to visit my dream city: Cartagena
See you next time Cartagena xxx
Back in LA, Beverly Hills
Beautiful homes in Los Angeles
Although our sales trip was cut short and we had so little time, we found this brand new selling point in LA! We hear that the stars do their secret shopping in this avant garde little store......Here you will find from candles to couture and everything in between: espionagela.com
Those palmtrees!!! This is my city!!!!
After waking up in our wonderful little B & B in Santa Monica we went to have breakfast at Shutters Hotel. This Hotel, whose logo was done by Mauricio in the nineties, has a delicious beachy feel, wonderful lobby and the best spot in town, overlooking Venice Beach. Next to it is it's luxurious Sister-Hotel called Casa del Mar, where we walked into a club-like huge and beautiful lobby, where the Hollywood crowd loves to hang out.
The view from breakfast at Shutters Hotel, Venice Beach.
Honestly, I did not think Los Angeles would make such a big impression on me, but I absolutely loved it! Don't know if it is it's beautiful beaches, lush vegetation, quaint neighborhoods, the mix of creative people or the flair of Hollywood, but I am definitely in love ! As for business, I thought Californians were so exited and friendly and they adored our products. So now our products are in LA, New York and Charleston. We made so many wonderful contacts and although it is a time and energy consuming way to do sales, it just fits with me. And in the mean time, I get to see most amazing places! I really feel like the luckiest girl in the planet.
Amber is millions+ of years old and it actually is not a stone, but fossilized resin from a pine tree. The first time I had seen it was on a necklace of my mom. She, being a great believer in the healing power of Amber, told me that it could take pain away. I loved that as a child and made me believe that nature has magical powers that nobody understands. When I became a mommy myself, I used the beautiful little necklaces for my children when teething. I loved the beautiful colors and soft feel, and the fact that they are ancient little things just is so amazing!
So when I was developing the baby line, I discovered there is also a fluid form of Amber. This deliciously warm and earthy smelling stuff actually comes from a prehistorical pine tree. I don't know if it is just my personal little story with amber as a girl, and the fact that it reminds me of my mom, but I still feel Amber really is something super special. Adding it to my recipe of the Baby & Child Oil gave it that magical touch and delicious scent that I was looking for.
And I still don't know how, but.... it actually helped my children through their tummy aches and restlessness and made a perfect soothing bath oil which made their skin smooth and healthy every day. I have always been convinced that baby products must be good for mommies, they are just the softest care products around. With this oil it seems more mommies feel exactly the same; as they turn out to be the biggest consumers of the Baby & Child Oil! I suspect that the Amber-smell must have something to do with it......
Add a little Amber- Baby & Child Oil to the Bath. Relax.
Traveling to new exotic places must be the most fun thing to do, we both love it! So honestly, discovering Holland never appealed to me that much. After spending most of my childhood here, the landscapes with the green fields, cows and mills have become cozy familiar to me, but exiting? hmmm, no. So this summer we went on salestrips for SAAR I was so surprised by the many quaint towns we found, with their beautiful old houses, little canals and I completely rediscovered the beauty of Holland! One of my absolute favorites is the city of Leiden, where we found a delicious terrace on a summer afternoon, tucked away in the back at the bottom of the fortress. It is called "het Koetshuis de Burcht" and sitting there somehow transports you to the old 1800 when Leiden was a city of trade and books. The walls of the city have beautiful poems and we even ran into our favorite poet Pablo Neruda!
Even the children are starting to enjoy these practical trips that can turn into fun as well! Ilaya, my 14 year old daughter, specifically enjoyed lunch at Fleurie in Bloemendaal. In fact, her sandwich was so good she is trying to get me back there ever since! I am overbearingly proud when she adds her favorite products to my sales-talk, in fact she is so good at it that I think I'll make her head of Sales one of these days :-).
And my little one, Tycho (almost 8 years old!), having been rubbed by mommie's balms all his life, promotes SAAR to total strangers and is so exited about all the new stores. And he loves the pancakes at The Pancake bakery on the Prinsengracht! Here you can have pancakes of the most exotic kind, but guess what he ordered? Pancakes with bacon! His favorite city is now; Amsterdam.
So now, after this summer you will find our products in many more stores! Check out "where to buy" and find out where we have been. Can't wait for our next salestrip: California here we come!
Orange blossom is one of those scents that just make me happy. It is joyous, sweet and fresh, like a ray of sunshine. It is just irresistible and on top it has numerous health benefits to the skin. I am in love with Orange Blossom, so let me tell you a little more about why.
Orange Blossom is a fragrant distillation of fresh bitter-orange flower. It has that ultra rich citrus feel but combined with the softness of a white flower. No wonder that since the times of ancient China these flowers were symbols of purity & innocence brides wore on their wedding day! The tradition of using orange flowers has spread from the East to Europe, during the times of the Crusaders. Now, during the orange blossom time in spring, millions of beautiful delicate white flowers scent the air throughout Florida. Spaniards brought bitter oranges into St. Augustine in Florida, in the 1500s, now one of the world’s largest producers of oranges.
Did you know that It takes 1,000 lbs. of orange blossoms to make 1 lb. of Orange Blossom Oil? and it is worth every drop! By merely adding one drop to a balm or oil, the skin comes to life. And, being one of the most loved fragrant flowers, orange blossoms have become indispensable in the perfume industry of today.
Balances the skin
I pick Orange Blossom as a favorite ingredient of SAAR Stretch Oil. I use it every day, not just on my body and tummy, but also for my face! It nourishes my skin perfectly, without making it greasy or shiny, and I love the smell!
Applying Orange Blossom as a hydrolat (flower water) or in an oil like our Stretch Oil on the skin can benefit both acne prone skin and mature skin. For acne prone skin, the citrus oil can clear and help the inflammation. In older skin that needs regeneration, it rejuvenates using the flavonoids in the oil and increases cellular metabolism.
And: is one of the only citrus oils that is not phototoxic! meaning you can get a little sun while wearing it...With skin symptoms such as scar pigmentation, broken capillaries, and overall uneven skin tone, Orange Blossom can improve and minimize these symptoms.
No question this jewel will be in more then one SAAR products to be, so stay posted!
With love & care, Saar.
After many months of brainstorming, designing, writing, photographing, re-doing, organizing, adjusting, networking, inquiring, re-thinking everything again, again and again....
a long, much anticipated delivery and finally born is: Saar Soleares!!!
The icing on the cake: our first organic perfume with an exotic flavor; "Soleares" . My line of organic care products that some of you might know as Golden Nature Products has been transformed into a new brand with a new coat. The organic perfume is the first of what I envision as a whole new line of products. Years ago, when I made a Beeswax Salve based on a family recipe for my daughter Ilaya, her rash magically disappeared after three weeks of using this homemade Salve. Since then my trust in finding a natural solution has only grown and inspires me to develop more of these powerful, healthy and delicious natural products.
In our new webshop you will find all your familiar products, with the same ingredients and quality, but with a complete re-design of our packaging. I hope this new direction will make you as happy as it makes me!
With love & care,
Thank you!!! Mauricio Arias, for making s a a r so beautiful. You are a very special person and most talented designer ever. I could not have done this without you.
